With a population of more than 18,200 spread over approximately 8,490 hectares (21,000 acres) of agricultural, commercial, industrial and residential land, the City of Thorold has something for everyone.

Thorold is within 30 minutes of four international bridge crossings to the United States. The City enjoys service from all of the major North American couriers, shippers and truck-freight forwarders. The municipality is serviced by Provincial Highways 20, 58 and 406, along with a well maintained municipal road network structure. Our local transit authority provides convenient transportation within our community and offers links to other neighbouring Regional Niagara communities. For these reasons, economists predict that the City of Thorold will enjoy the highest growth rate of any of its neighbours in Regional Niagara over the next 50 years.

Thorold is proud to be "Canada’s Canal City", and has one of the few authentic canal downtown areas remaining in Canada. The Welland Canal currently in operation is the fourth to be built; and during the shipping season, one can watch the remarkable passage of ocean and lake-bound vessels through the Allanburg lift bridge and twin flight locks from many viewing areas within the community. For a great view of the historic second Welland Canal, follow the Merritt Trail which runs along its route through the City.
