New Smoke Alarm Legislation

At a press release on December 13, 2005 Fire Marshal Bernie Moyle introduced new smoke alarm legislation. This legislation changes the number of smoke alarms that are required in a residence. Research has shown that one smoke alarm is not enough to adequately cover an entire home in the event of a fire. Copies of the Background Information and a Press Release are available for you to review. Effective March 1, 2006, this legislation has come into effect.

Carbon Monoxide Alarms (CO)

Every home which contains a fuel fired appliance should have at least one carbon monoxide alarm installed outside the sleeping areas.

Carbon Monoxide alarms will warn you of danger but regular maintenance of all fuel fired appliances and solid fuel burning appliances will minimize the danger of carbon monoxide poisoning.
