Waste Collection & Recycling


Effective May 12, 2015

The Regional Municipality of Niagara is responsible for all curbside waste collection, large household items and appliances and recycling.

Christmas Tree collection will be provided on Saturday, January 9, 2016 ONLY. Christmas trees wrapped in plastic or buried in snow will not be collected. Christmas trees must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on the designated collection day.

Niagara Residents can pick up additional and replacement bins at the Public Works Department, 1543 Beaverdams Road, Thorold, Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 

Blue Boxes - $6.00 each - Plastics & Bottles.

Grey Boxes - $6.00 each - Recyclable Paper such as newspapers, magazines and cardboard.

Kitchen Catcher  - $4.00 each

Green Home Organic Food & Yard Waste Bins
$22.00 each (with wheels)

Black Backyard Composters - $21.00 each.

New Homeowners (owners of a single family home or of an apartment with two to six units) are entitled to obtain one set of containers free of charge within six months of taking possession of their home. Residents are required to present a copy of their transfer deed as evidence of the possession date of their house to receive the free containers. If the transfer deed has not yet been issued to the resident, other documentation that clearly identifies the home owner's name and reflects the date of home purchase or possession will also be accepted. If the sic month period has passed, residents may choose to purchase the container(s).

A free container set consists of:

  • 1 Blue Bin
  • 1 Grey Bin
  • 1 Green Organics Bin
  • 1 Kitchen Catcher
