2018 Summer Aquatics Staff

The City of Thorold is currently accepting applications for aquatic staff positions for summer 2018.

Work schedules may include evenings, weekends and holiday shifts; hours of work will vary by position and can be up to 44 hours per week. Successful candidates are expected to be available for the duration of the summer season and requests for time off outside of regularly scheduled days off will be limited. 

Applications for 2018 summer swim instructors and lifeguards will be accepted
until all positions have been filled.


Aquatic Supervisor (FILLED)

Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator, the Aquatic Supervisor will:

  • plan, organize, train, schedule, monitor, evaluate and provide guidance to aquatic staff
  • assist with coordination, implementation and delivery of aquatic programs and special events
  • act as the liaison between aquatic staff and the Recreation Coordinator reporting issues arising with program participants, equipment or staff
  • perform lifeguard and related duties
  • provide swimming instruction
  • possess current knowledge of all applicable provincial and regional regulations
  • manage first aid and equipment inventories
  • ensure applicable paperwork and reporting is complete, accurate and submitted in a timely fashion
  • perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • at least 18 years of age
  • at least one year aquatic supervisory experience
  • current NLS certification
  • current Swim Instructor certification
  • current First Aid and CPR "C" certifications
  • Aquatic Supervisor Training
  • High Five Principles of Healthy Childhood Development certification
  • clear Police Vulnerable Sector Screening check

On Deck Supervisor (FILLED)

In the absence of the Aquatic Supervisor, the On Deck Supervisor will:

  • assist with planning, organizing, training, scheduling, monitor and provide guidance to aquatic staff
  • assist with coordination, implementation and delivery of aquatic programs and special events
  • perform lifeguard and related duties
  • provide swimming instruction
  • possess current knowledge of all applicable provincial and regional regulations
  • assist with managing first aid and equipment inventories
  • ensure applicable paperwork and reporting is complete, accurate and submitted in a timely fashion
  • perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • at least 18 years of age
  • at least one year aquatic supervisory experience (considered an asset)
  • current NLS certification
  • current Swim Instructor certification
  • current First Aid and CPR "C" certifications
  • Aquatic Supervisor Training (considered an asset)
  • High Five Principles of Healthy Childhood Development certification (considered an asset)
  • clear Police Vulnerable Sector Screening check

Salary: $17.00


Instructors

Under the direction of the Aquatic Supervisor, Instructors will:

  • develop safe and quality programs and lesson plans for swimming instruction for patrons of all abilities
  • lead group swimming lessons for patrons of all ages and abilities levels
  • evaluate participants' performance
  • maintain accurate records of performance and attendance
  • communicate with participants and parents/guardians on participant progress

Requirements:

  • current NLS certification
  • current Swim Instructor certification
  • current First Aid and CPR "C" certifications
  • High Five Principles of Healthy Childhood Development certification (considered an asset)
  • clear Police Vulnerable Sector Screening check

Salary: $15.50


Lifeguards

Under the direction of the Aquatic Supervisor, Lifeguards will:

  • ensure the overall safety of patrons using the facilities
  • minimize and eliminate hazardous conditions in all areas
  • treatment of injuries
  • maintain cleanliness of the pool and change rooms
  • be responsible for pool entrance including admission standards, money handling and record keeping

Requirements:

  • current NLS certification
  • current First Aid and CPR "C" certifications
  • High Five Principles of Healthy Childhood Development certification (considered an asset)
  • clear Police Vulnerable Sector Screening check

Salary: $14.50
