Elections Employment

In the Summer of 2014 the City of Thorold will be seeking applicants who wish to work the Municipal Election.  We will require workers for our Advance Polling days on October 18th​, and 22nd, 2014 as well as Election Day on October 27, 2014, the hours of work will be 9:00 a.m. to approximately 9:00 p.m.  Polls will be open 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

A few weeks prior to Election day a mandatory paid training session will be provided for all positions.

The following are examples of the types of positions we will be recruiting for:

Poll Supervisor - The Poll Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the proper set-up and closing of the poll, monitor and coordinate all polling activities and prepare a summary statement of voting at the poll, overall security of the voting place, greeting electors as they arrive and assist them with any questions they may have and direct them to the proper DRO for their Polling subdivision and act in the work capacity of any election official assigned to the voting place, if necessary.

Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) - The Deputy Returning Officer is responsible for maintaining an assigned portion of the Voters List and reporting the exact number of voters, issuing the appropriate ballots, recording Oaths sworn or affirmed, on the Voters List and completion of ballot reconciliation.

Affidavits Clerk - The Affidavits Clerk is responsible for taking affidavits of electors who wish to add/change/delete their information on the Voters List, administering the Oath or Affirmation of Secrecy to candidates and scrutineers attending the voting place and keep a record of the same and ensure the candidates and scrutineers abide by the rules.

Tabulator Operator - the Tabulator Operator is responsible for inserting ballots into the tabulator, assisting voters in the automated voting process, producing the tabulation tapes at the open and close of the polls and securing the tabulator from receiving ballots at the close of the poll.

Elections Assistant - The Greeter is responsible for assisting voters with any questions they may have regarding proper marking of ballots.
