Annual Hydrant Inspection and Flushing Program

Please be advised that as of MONDAY, MAY 21, 2018, the City of Thorold’s Operations Department will begin the Annual Hydrant Inspection and Flushing Program. This program will run for approximately 6 - 8 weeks.

All water mains and hydrants within the City of Thorold’s Drinking Water Distribution Systems will be flushed to keep the drinking water system clear of sediment and keep the quality high. Subsequently, flushing may cause temporary discolouration to your water. The Operations Department is advising residents who experience discolouration during this period should run cold water taps and garden hoses until the water runs clear.

City Staff will also be inspecting and testing fire hydrants to ensure the system is functioning properly and ask residents to use caution if they are in the area of a flushing hydrant.

Your patience during this period is appreciated and should you have any questions related to the program or the safety of the drinking water in your area, please call Monday to Friday - 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 905-227-3521 ext. 224 or email at
